Queen Elizabeth II has two birthdays to celebrate: her actual birthday on 21 April and her official birthday on (usually) the second Saturday in June. To mark The Queen’s birthday in June, over 1400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians come together to give a great display of military precision, horsemanship and fanfare.
Princess Elizabeth was a young girl who did not expect to be Queen, became an iconic and celebrated figure who has ruled for more than 60 years as Britain’s Monarch. She was born at 17 Bruton St, Mayfair on 21 April 1926 and christened on 29 May 1926 at Buckingham Palace.
It’s truly amazing to know that she is 94 and still working. Because of her devotion to public and voluntary service, Her Majesty has become an influential figurehead for the UK and the Commonwealth. She is also well loved and respected around the globe.
At present, she continues to follow a complete program of appointments and activities, from visiting schools and charities, to receiving and entertaining visiting Heads of States, to ushering the nation in Remembrance and celebratory events.
Her daily routine starts when her personal maid brings her morning cup of tea, turns on her radio and draws her bath. The Queen’s dressers then choose her wardrobe for the day and her hair dresser fixes her hair to the style she always favors. Then a footman brings her breakfast and her press secretary presents to her a news digest for her to read before meeting with her private secretary. All throughout the day, footmen open doors for her and maids are at her beck and call.
Wouldn’t it be grand to be queen or king for a day?
